Certificate in Formulary Drug Evaluation Processes

Essential Skills for evidence-based formulary decision-making within Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees

Healthcare professional taking notes for formulary drug evaluationPharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committees help determine which drugs will be included in a drug formulary. They operate in various settings such as hospitals and managed care organizations. Committee members come from a wide variety of backgrounds. They can be physicians, nurses, pharmacists, scientists and others in the healthcare industry.

This causes variances in practices for clinicians who contribute to P&T committees. Implementing a consistent operating and training program for committee members can be challenging. P&T Committee members must understand how to evaluate the medical literature and use evidence-based practice to make formulary decisions.

Both committee members and non-members make significant contributions to the drug evaluation and formulary management process. In partnership with the University of Illinois-Chicago, the University of Wisconsin is proud to offer the  “Certificate in Formulary Drug Evaluation Processes” to provide clarity and structure to the evidence evaluation process. The curriculum is designed to improve decision making among all contributors. This 100% online certificate program provides you with training in evidence-based decision making. Upon completion, you will gain skills critical to the formulary drug selection process.

Through a series of eight modules, taken at your own pace you will receive training in the following areas:

  • Creating drug evaluation and selection strategies
  • Development of committee materials
  • Strategies for searching and evaluating medical literature
  • Applying medical evidence to decision making

Developed & Conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago in cooperation with the Division of Pharmacy Professional Development, School of Pharmacy, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
