About the Island
Diverse is the word most commonly used to describe the Big Island. Not only does the Big Island have tremendous sun and surf appeal, it is also home to an active “drive-in” volcano, sacred cultural and historic sights, prestigious astronomical facilities and a beautiful landscape. The Big Island offers something for everyone and is nearly twice the size of all of the other Hawaiian islands combined. In the Kona District you can find vast lava flows in the north, and rolling countryside in the south. The Hilo District is the most tropical area of the island, filled with exotic flowers and home to Hilo, the largest city on the island. Other districts on the island encompass everything from magnificent cliffs and valleys, highland forest and pastureland and massive lava fields, to the highest waterfalls in Hawaii and green and black sand beaches. Finally, in the Kohala District, located on the northernmost tip of the island, you will find luxury resorts and hotels, white sand beaches, and sun and fun. Explore and relax on the Big Island as you experience all of the natural wonders it offers.
