Goals & Objectives

At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the physiology of the normal menstrual cycle;
  2. Describe the physiological effects of estrogen and progestin;
  3. Scientifically describe the process of conception;
  4. List the indications for the use of contraception;
  5. Compare the mechanisms of action and effectiveness of various methods of contraception;
  6. List the absolute and relative contraindications for the use of oral contraception;
  7. List the types of emergency contraception (EC), their indications for use and the differences between them;
  8. List the absolute and relative contraindications and safety recommendations for the use of EC;
  9. Discuss the professional ethical considerations involving pharmacists providing   access to EC; and
  10. Explain the legal issues involved with pharmacists providing access to EC.

Course Information

Intended Audience

Pharmacists and other health care providers interested in indications, contraindications, ethical issues, and legal issues of providing access to emergency contraceptives. Please note: the home study course is for those who did not participate in the Live presentation in August 2006.

Computer Requirements

You will need Macromedia Flash Player 6,0,79 and up to view the video and listen to the audio. This free plug-in can be downloaded from Macromedia's Website.

You will also need Adobe Reader to download and print the PDF handouts. This free program can be downloaded from Adobe's Website.

A printer is required if you would like to print the PDF slide handouts.

You must be connected to the internet to view the online lectures and complete the post-test. Materials other than the pdf handouts are not downloadable. A high speed connection is highly recommended.

Instructions

  1. First view the Presentation Demo before registering. Make sure you can view this presentation and hear the audio components. If you experience problems make sure your computer meets the requirements listed above. If you still experience problems email us.
  2. Once you have successfully viewed the demo, click on "Register for Emergency Contraception-Home Study ". Log-in with your CE user account. If you are new to the CE portal please register now. Enter your credit card information to complete the registration process. If your credit card is accepted your registration is complete.
  3. Once you have registered you will have access to the course materials found to the right, below Course Materials. Some course materials may be downloaded in pdf format to print or read offline.
  4. After studying/viewing the course materials, select the Post-Test link. Complete on-line and submit answers. You must achieve a minimum score of 70% correct. In the event your score is below 70%, you will be provided with an option to “retake” the post-test by changing the previously recorded response(s).
  5. Upon successful completion of the Post-Test, select “Evaluation for Asthma and other Non-infectious Respiratory Diseases ”. Complete and submit evaluation responses.
  6. You will then be able to view your successful post-test responses and score.
  7. Select “View Certificate”. Print your Statement of Credit (verifying successful completion) to your printer.
